Insomnia is a sleep disorder that makes it difficult to fall asleep, stay asleep, and go back to sleep after waking up. The disorder also causes suffers to feel tired after waking up and difficult to function during the day.

The sleep disorder can be defined as either acute—lasting anywhere between one night to a few weeks—and chronic, meaning it occurs at least three nights a week for at least a month. Usually acute insomnia will go away without any medical intervention.
