If you have frequent back or neck pain, you are one of the more than 31 million Americans who deal with back pain at any given time. A study by the United States Bone and Joint Initiative revealed that back pain accounts for more than 264 million lost work days per year, and that’s no surprise considering how back pain impacts the entire body. Back and neck pain makes it hard to perform simple daily tasks and even basic movements like standing or sitting.

Neck pain occurs in any part of the spine that extends from the first cervical vertebra (which is around the bottom of the earlobe) down to the seventh vertebra (which is located around the top of the shoulder). The mid and upper back is from the seventh vertebra down to the 12th thoracic vertebra. The low back starts below the 12th thoracic vertebra and goes down to about mid-way between the two back and hip bones. Back and neck pain can occur in any of these areas, and common reasons for that include obesity, osteoarthritis, sitting too much, poor posture, and even smoking.
